One-time NFL Player Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Trial
Former NFL player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to address an attempted murder charge related to a shooting that took place in May, with his attorney entering a not guilty declaration on his behalf.
Detention records in Essex County, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the NFL, had relinquished transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was detained after being apprehended in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that he has already submitted a written innocent plea to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday morning for a bail session, Eiglarsh stated.
Based on his detention order, Brown is accused of seizing a pistol from a protection guard after a celebrity match event in May and firing multiple rounds at a man he had fought with previously. The alleged individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that a bullet grazed his throat.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was simply defending himself from Nantambu.
“The measures he was compelled to take were exclusively in defense against the alleged victim’s hostile actions. Brown was assaulted that evening and behaved within his legal privilege to protect himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not right away detained because initially officers did not recognize Nantambu as a victim. It only afterward in May that Nantambu delivered a full account about the incident to police and pointed out Brown as the gunman, the document indicates.
From his social media content, Brown had been living in the city of Dubai for several weeks. In a message after the incident, Brown said he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by numerous persons who attempted to take my jewelry and inflict physical injury to me.”
